What we will build for the 1900s: "Manchester United's first title, Newcastle's stylish dominance, and the £1,000 transfer barrier." Below is our prototype blueprint showing how this decade’s social narrative, terrace subculture, archival photography, and filmed supporter interviews will be structured as we roll out production across our partner clubs.
Football became Britain's unquestioned national obsession in the Edwardian era. Newton Heath was rescued from bankruptcy and rechristened Manchester United in 1902, winning their maiden league title in 1908. Meanwhile, Newcastle United dominated with flowing passing football, and the first £1,000 transfer (Alf Common to Sunderland) shocked public sensibilities.
Terraces were paved in tiered concrete with steel crush barriers. The first wooden rattles and club songsheets emerged on matchdays.
The penalty area and penalty spot as we know them today were formalised in 1902 (replacing the full 18-yard box line). Players wore heavy leather boots with nailed-on leather studs.
Genuine contemporary 19th-century photographs, architectural records, and Victorian match engravings preserved from the foundation of the English Football League. Click any plate to inspect full archival details and provenance.
Preview how individual Club Chronicles will connect to this era as we progress through our phased rollout, beginning with our initial cohort of Phase 1 partner clubs and expanding to all 22 North West teams.
